1Chlorine in this product. :(Oct 29, 2009

I am usualy a big fan of Melissa & Doug toys, however upon reading the toy safety review for this item (put out by HealthyStuff dot Org), I was upset to find that this toy scored a Chemical Level of Medium (High is worst, Low is best). This toy was found to contain Chlorine (PVC). Flexible PVC plastic can contain plasticizers called phthalates. Therefore, detection of high levels of chlorine infers the possible presence of phthalates.

Phthalates, depending on the level of exposure and the type of phthalate, have been linked to harm to reproductive development, especially in boys. They have also been linked to asthma.

5Just what I was looking forMay 24, 2009

My 16-month-old daughter loves to mimic me and play pretend, so I have been searching for play food for her. I was unable to find any that was labelled for smaller children, but I figured I could buy these and simply withold the strawberries. As it turns out, even the strawberries are too large for my daughter to get them all the way in her mouth, so I do not have to worry. She loves them! She gathers them all in her basket and then hands them out, pretending to eat. In know that they will continue to provide entertainment and learning possibilities as she gets older. There was only the slightest hint of "new toy" smell when I opened the package, but it dissapated quickly. The size and coloring of each peice is very realistic. Just perfect.

3Safety ConcernsJan 27, 2010

This is a beautiful, realistic set of fruit, but I was a bit concerned to read this link: [...]. My son doesn't put them in his mouth, so we haven't gotten rid of them, but I think a buyer should be aware of the chemicals in the plastic.

5Great quality and very realistic.May 02, 2011

My daughter got a toy kitchen for Christmas at 20ish months old. The food that we found at our local toy store was cracking, breaking, peeling, etc w/in days of her playing with them (especially if she put them in her mouth for even a second- which a toddler is bound to do). These are nearly impossible to destroy though. Very well made, and very real looking. I would HIGHLY reccomend this product!

3Also surprisedMar 07, 2011

My kids enjoy these toys but I was also disappointed that they are not wood.... Also upset after reading about the chemicals that they contain. My kids don't pretend to eat them though, and don't play with them every day, so I am keeping them for now, but will probably give them away eventually.
