Sturdy, good-looking, & surprising quality for the priceDec 30, 2007

This book display is much more a piece of furniture than a toy, and I was concerned that it might not seem a very 'fun' gift for a 7-year-old girl. But I combined the bookshelf with a "Hooked on Phonics" 30-book learning system, and my granddaughter has been having a ball playing 'school' with it. If you want to foster a love of books in a child, I suggest that you combine this gift with a set of age-appropriate books or a bunch of children's magazine subscriptions, and you'll have a winning gift! It is fairly easy to assemble. (I wasn't sure what Rubberwood was when I ordered it, but it is a smooth heavy durable wood.)

This was a little more than I wanted to spend, but worth it. It is sturdy and will last for years. My 19 month old daughter can now see (and get to) all of her books - and she loves putting them back.

I bought this book shelf when my son was about 10 months old. He loves this book shelf so much, because he can find his favorite books so easily and also he enjoys arranging books. I often see him sitting in front of it, and reading book by himself. He is so interested in books now. This display style book shelf is definitely good tool for the parents who wants their child read books.

Drill your holes for your screws before screwing in the screws. The wood cracked because I didn't. It is a great book display apparatus eventhough the company sent it with the logo placed upside down. Maybe it is so you can read it while looking down at it from above?

A bit hit with toddler and parentsApr 10, 2009
By Lisa and Naomi's mom I bought this shelf after seeing how attracted children were to the unit in a preschool classroom setting. It seems better than the fabric organizers because its' stiffness allows for more of the book cover to be displayed. Needless to say, the plywood used has a nice soft grain and all the edges have been sanded smooth.
Our 1 year old daughter initially just pulled everything out, then wanted to put everything imaginable into it, and now carefully selects (and sometimes replaces) books to take to mom and dad for a good read. Words cannot express how much joy this type of interaction brings to our little family.
Previously, we just stacked the books and spread them out at certain times to go through marathon reading sessions. Now, our little girl is read to regularly throughout the day whenever she or we feel like it. And yes, she often spends a significant amount of time glancing over the titles before making a careful selection.
It's not hard to assemble but long wood screws and a couple mystery pre-drilled holes aren't exactly amusing either.
If you're patient, the price fluctuates and I bought one with free shipping for $[...]. This is a nice piece of shelving which survived the shipping process even though its box did not. We did however feel the need to put white glue over some of the rusty looking screw heads used in the preassembled portion.
